And the news
Jul. 4th, 2008 09:32 pmI live on the grounds of an open prison. Recently my house was burgled by an inmate. This happens very rarely, in case you're wondering, because there is camera surveillance, and besides, even if you do get in and out of the place you're robbing unnoticed, it's quite difficult to hide stolen property in a cell... And sure enough, the perp had the stolen goods confiscated almost immediately after the break-in. Except for our passports which, apparently, he did had time to dispense of. Probably sold them to some other inmate who's planning to bring a kidnapped girl into the country and force her into prostitution, you know? That bums me out so much more than anything else in the matter. I'm hoping against hope that they're going to do something else with the passports, in case they're not found by the guards.
I'm assuming that the guy who had the goods is the one who broke in, though he denies it. He's not talking about who sold him the stuff if he didn't steal it himself. Poor sod. Now he's going to a maximum security prison for having committed a felony while serving a sentence, and for what? A few video games and half a bottle of booze, which is what the rest of the booty amounted to. I'd let him keep the stuff if it were up to me. His life is taking a turn for the worse, and he's not a malicious person. Just a sorry drunk. He didn't mess the place up or break anything. He didn't even take anything of value except for the passports. And they're not really of monetary (or sentimental) value to us, the insurance will cover the administrative costs of getting new ones. So this guy really did very little to us. I'm just wishing he hasn't sold the passports to some loser psycho.
In other and much better news, I'm going to see Leonard Cohen in concert in Copenhagen tomorrow. Yeah.
